Theoretically, when two cables of the same specification and section are connected in parallel, the branch current of the two cables is the same. At this time, the carrying capacity of the transmission line can reach twice of the original line, so this method should be feasible.

Low voltage cable

It is not feasible to parallel a cable of the same specification and section in practice. The reasons are as follows:

1. Even if the same cable manufacturer produces cables of the same specification in different periods, the possibility of having the same cross-sectional area is relatively small. The resistance of the cable varies with the cross-sectional area.

2. When two cables of the same specification are laid in parallel, they are often without tension. Therefore, it is impossible to ensure that the cables are absolutely straight and their length cannot be completely consistent. Different cable lengths will also cause different cable resistance values.

3. The conductor of two cables may be in poor contact or loose at the joint, and the contact area can not be completely consistent, which will also make the resistance of the two cables different.

LV cables

It can be seen that for two parallel cables, due to the different resistance, the current distribution of the two cables will be inconsistent in the actual use process. In the case of the same voltage level, one of the current may be larger. Because the heat generated by the cable is directly proportional to the square of the current, under the condition of full load operation, the cable with larger current may have thermal breakdown.

Therefore, parallel use of the same specification of cable there are certain hidden dangers, it is not recommended to use this method.
