Basic structure
The basic structure of power cable consists of core (conductor), insulating layer, shielding layer and protective layer.
(1) Core
The core is the conductive part of power cable, which is used to transmit electric energy and is the main part of power cable.
(2) Insulating layer
The insulation layer is to separate the core from the earth and the cores of different phases from each other electrically to ensure the power transmission. It is an indispensable part of the power cable structure.
(3) Shielding layer
15kV and above power cables generally have conductor shielding layer and insulation shielding layer.
(4) Protective layer
The function of the protective layer is to protect the power cable from the invasion of external impurities and moisture, and to prevent direct damage to the power cable by external forces.
Classification:
According to voltage level:
According to the voltage level, it can be divided into medium and low-voltage power cables (35kV and below), high-voltage cables (above 110kV), ultra-high-voltage cables (275-800kv) and UHV cables (1000kV and above). In addition, it can be divided into AC cable and DC cable according to current system.
According to insulation materials:
- Oil impregnated paper insulated power cable an oil impregnated paper insulated power cable. Its application history is the longest. It is safe and reliable, long service life and low price. The main disadvantage is that the laying is limited by the drop. Since the development of non dripping liquid impregnated paper insulation, the problem of drop limit has been solved, so that the oil impregnated paper insulated cable can continue to be widely used.
- The insulation layer of plastic insulated power cable is extruded plastic power cable. The commonly used plastics are PVC, PE and XLPE cable. The plastic cable has the advantages of simple structure, convenient manufacturing and processing, light weight, convenient laying and installation, and is not limited by the laying drop. Therefore, it is widely used as medium and low voltage cable, and has the trend of replacing viscous impregnated oil paper cable. The biggest drawback is the existence of dendrite breakdown, which limits its use in higher voltage.
- The insulation layer of rubber insulated power cable is made of rubber and various compounding agents. After being fully mixed, it is extruded on the conductor core, and then heated and vulcanized. It is soft and elastic, suitable for frequent movement and small laying bending radius.
The rubber materials commonly used for insulation are natural rubber – styrene butadiene rubber mixture, ethylene propylene rubber, butyl rubber, etc.
